~Classes~

Since 2005 I have been running weekly classes continuously throughout the year. At present they are held on Mondays, mornings 9.30am-12.30pm, afternoons 2.00pm-5.00pm and the evenings, 6.30pm-8.30pm. The classes run every week apart from bank holidays or if I am away.

All the work is hand built, the students making a wide and varied selection of work, animals, pots, plaques, birdbaths, garden sculptures, butter dishes, a wonderful array of varied ideas. Some people spend time on detailed and intricate work, learning new skills, stretching themselves, and producing some amazing and beautiful work. Others make fun, quirky and very pleasing items for family and friends.

As the classes are continuous and very sociable, some of my students have made lasting friendships; one lady came for eight years before she ran out of ideas!

I do not run the classes as lessons, students come with ideas which we can discuss and I advise them on the best way to proceed with their chosen project , I will also help you avoid mistakes, often by passing on lessons I have learnt the hard way.

The classes take place in my studio in the garden, the view is beautiful and we often see foxes, buzzards or lambs depending on the season.

Every year for the open studio events Dorset and Somerset Art Weeks, we have a themed project for those who wish to participate. Students also have an opportunity sell their work.

The charge for the classes is £6.00 per hour; you do not have to stay for the full three hours. There is no up-front payment, so just come when you can.

If you have to go away on holiday for example, I will do my best to keep your unfinished work damp until you return. When your work is finished and fired, I make a charge of £3.00/1lb weight of the finished piece.

The clay, materials and kilns are all the same as I use for my work, everything is fired together and I make every effort to ensure your work will come out successfully.

As the work is fired to Stoneware temperatures, everything is frost proof, if you want it for your garden. Some of my work has been outside for over twenty years, unfortunately I cannot make it cat proof!

If you are interested in trying a class, you are very welcome to come and see what we do, please e-mail or ring for more details.
