Dogs and Cats

When I make dogs and cats, and I have both, I make them in the poses we are all familiar with, and which are common to all breeds. I’m sure that any pet owner will recognise something of their cat or dog in the sculptures I make. People often buy my work because it reminds them of their pet. I do not make specific breeds except by commission. Bronze resin dogs and bronze resin cats are also popular as presents and gifts for pet lovers.

Dogs

The domestic dog has been selectively bred over millennia for various behaviours, sensory capabilities, and physical attributes.

Extensive genetic studies undertaken during the 2010s indicate that dogs diverged from an extinct wolf-like canid in Eurasia 40,000 years ago.Their long association with humans has led to dogs being uniquely attuned to human behaviour and are able to thrive on a starch-rich diet which would be inadequate for other canid species. Dogs are also the oldest domesticated animal. Dogs vary widely in shape, size and colours.

Dogs perform many roles for people, such as hunting, herding, pulling loads, protection, assisting police and military, companionship and, more recently, aiding handicapped individuals. This influence on human society has given them the sobriquet, “man’s best friend”.

The ceramic dogs are individually made and will not be quite the same as the photo.

Resin Bronze Sculptures

When I make a sculpture I particularly like, I Have it moulded and cast in Bronze Resin. A process that creates an attractive and durable alternative to real bronze. The bronze resin animal sculptures have proved to be very popular as they are affordable and easy to send and I am continually adding to the range. My work is also available in galleries, mainly in the Westcountry.
